Edit links
In Form settings → Editing, under Editing after submission, turn on Let respondents edit their submission. After sending, people see "Need to change something later?" with a private link. It reopens their answers, marked "Editing your submission", and saving updates the same item instead of creating a new one.
- Maximum edits per submission stops the link after that many edits. Leave it empty for no limit.
- Each edit is counted on the Dashboard and in Responses.
- The link can also go into a Link column on the item, by automation. See Automations.
Answers that can't be changed later
Some answers should stay as they were first given: an incident date, an order number, a signature. Open the question and turn off Can be changed later (under Basics).
- Whenever an answer is changed, the question shows the answer it already has, greyed out and marked "Can't be changed". That covers an edit link, finding the item, a private item link, the item card in monday.com, and a repeat response set to Replace their first answers.
- If the item has no answer for it yet, it can still be answered, once. For example, a supplier can fill in a detail your team left empty.
- A File or Signature question can't be changed once it has files: people see "Already sent. This can't be changed." instead of the upload button or the signing pad.
- MasterForms checks this when saving too, so the answer stays even if someone alters the page.
- Your team can still change the column on the board itself.
Save and finish later
With Let people save and finish later on, the form has a Save and finish later button. It gives a private link that brings the answers back on any device for 30 days. Files and signatures aren't saved, so people add them when they come back.
Note: Separately, answers are kept in the browser as people type. If someone closes the tab by mistake and comes back on the same device, they're asked "Pick up where you left off?"
