Step-by-step guide

Sync items across boards.
Automatically.

monday.com doesn't natively support one item living on multiple boards. The Mirror Columns workaround is painful, clutters your board, and can't trigger automations. Here's every option, and the one that actually works.

Why this matters

Why teams need items
on multiple boards

Cross-team visibility

A project item needs to appear on the project board AND the client board AND the ops board, all kept in sync.

Department-specific views

Design, dev, and ops each work from their own board, but the underlying tasks are the same. One item, three views.

Master board architecture

Leadership needs a single overview board. Each team needs their own filtered view. Mirror Item connects them all.

Avoiding out-of-sync duplicates

Manual copying creates separate items that diverge immediately. A synced item means every board always reflects the truth.

Set up cross-board sync
in 2 minutes

Using Mirror Item Multiple Boards, the fastest path from manual copying to full automation.

1

Install Mirror Item Multiple Boards

Go to the monday.com marketplace, search "Mirror Item Multiple Boards" by Fortimus, and install it to your workspace. Free to try.

2

Open the Mirror Item automation panel

On your source board, open the Automations panel and filter by "Mirror Item." You'll see 30+ prebuilt recipes, choose the one that matches your trigger (item created, status changed, button clicked, etc.).

3

Select your target board and group

Pick the board (or boards) you want the item to appear on. Optionally select a specific group on the target board.

4

Columns sync automatically

Mirror Item auto-detects all columns that share the same name and type across your boards and syncs them automatically. No manual mapping needed. If you want certain columns to stay independent, just rename them so they no longer match.

5

Sync existing items if needed

Use the "When button clicked → sync all items" recipe to bulk-sync existing items to your target board in one go. New items are handled by your automations going forward.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I sync items across multiple boards in monday.com?+
Use the Mirror Item Multiple Boards app from the monday.com marketplace. Install it, choose the item and target boards, configure which columns to sync, and set up an automation recipe. Items sync automatically from that point, any update on any board reflects everywhere.
Can you have the same item on two boards in monday.com?+
Not natively. monday.com does not support one item living on multiple boards out of the box. Mirror Item Multiple Boards adds this capability, it places a synced copy of the item on every board you choose, and keeps all copies updated automatically.
What is the difference between one-way and two-way sync in monday.com?+
One-way sync means changes on the source board push to target boards, but not the other way around. Two-way sync means any change on any connected board reflects everywhere. Mirror Item Multiple Boards supports both modes.
How do I avoid duplicate items in monday.com?+
Instead of copying items manually (which creates separate duplicates), use Mirror Item Multiple Boards to create one synced item that lives on multiple boards. All copies stay in sync automatically, no duplicates, one source of truth.
How do I set up a master board that syncs to department boards in monday.com?+
Install Mirror Item Multiple Boards and use the automation recipe "When item is created → mirror to Target Board." Set this up for each department board. New items added to your master board automatically appear on all department boards and stay in sync.
