Press Start timer on My time, an issue or the Timers page, and pick the issue. The timer keeps running until you stop it, even if you close Jira.
- Stop & log opens Add time with the tracked time filled in, so you can correct it before saving.
- Pause and Resume: paused time is never logged.
- Discard throws the timer away without logging anything.
- Waiting to be logged: stopped timers you haven't logged yet. Log or discard them from the Timers page or the issue panel.
Timer settings
Admins choose how timers work in Settings → Timers.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Off | No timers. People enter time with Add time only. |
| Manual | People start and stop their own timers. |
| Manual and automatic | A timer also starts for the assignee while an issue is in an active status, and stops when it leaves that status or is reassigned. An automatic timer never logs by itself: it waits until its owner checks the time and logs it. |
| Running timers | Let people run several timers at once (one per issue). When off, starting a timer stops the running one. |
| Rounding | Log exact minutes, or round to a number of minutes. Optionally count only working hours, so a timer left on overnight logs only the working part. |
| Idle time | Ask "Were you still working?" after a set time away (the Jira tab hidden or the computer asleep), with Keep the time, Remove it and stop or Remove the idle minutes. |
| Logging limits | Block time in the future, and limit how many days back time can be added or changed. |
